When in Belmont Regional Park, if a dead or dying bird is located do not touch the animal, It is vitally important that any sick or dead birds at Belmont Regional Park are reported immediately to either Bruce or Peta (Greater Wellington Regional Council Rangers) at any time of the day or night.
Signs of HPAI in birds include
- Weakness, lethargy or difficulty standing/walking
- Tremors, seizures, twisted neck, head pressing or circling
- Difficulty breathing or gasping
- Swollen eyes/head or sudden death without obvious signs
